More than 800 years ago, an artist in China painted a picture called The Vinegar Tasters.
It shows three wise men standing around a jar of vinegar. One tastes it and looks unhappy. One tastes it and looks calm. And one tastes it and smiles. Same vinegar, three different reactions.

The vinegar is like our life. The three wise men are 3 teachers : Confucius, Buddha, and Laozi.
There are millions of people for thousands of years following these teachers and their view of life. Confucius inspired Confucianism. Buddha inspired Buddhism. Laozi inspired Daoism.
On the left, Confucius. He is like a caring mother who wants you to study hard. Mother teaches you good manners. She reminds you to respect your family, keep your promises, and always try to do the right thing. She can be strict, but her goal is to help you become a better person. Some call it tough love!
In the middle is Buddha who is like a kind meditation teacher. He sees that you are upset. Instead of telling you what to do, he says, look inside your mind. He teaches that understanding yourself is the first step to finding inner peace.
On the right is Laozi who is like your wise grandpa. You are worried because life didn’t go as planned. He smiles and says, “That’s okay.” Not everything needs to be a fight. Sometimes life is easier when you stop pushing so hard and learn to go with the flow. Be like a river and accept where life takes you.
Sometimes we need a mother’s discipline, a teacher’s wisdom, and a grandfather’s gentle reminder that everything will be okay.
Life isn’t about sticking to one teacher forever. Just like you learn different things from your mother, your teacher, and your grandfather, you can learn different kinds of wisdom from different people. Take what helps you become a better person.
Refuse to be trapped by a single taste. Think freely. Collect wisdom. Let every philosophy teach you something.
